History of the 1894 Historic Museum Freighthouse: Originally built with the San Luis Obispo Depot upon arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1894, the 32' x 150' freight house served to load and transfer goods between the SP and the local narrow gauge, Pacific Coast Railway which linked San Luis Obispo with other towns in the County, State and Nation. The freight house remains intact today and is one of the oldest railroad structures in San Luis Obispo County. It is located at 1940 Santa Barbara Avenue, just south of the SLO Amtrak Station. Be sure to stop by for a visit.
