This year's Coast Rails 2014 PCR Convention will feature a program for the Non-Rail attendees. All Non-Rail convention attendees are cordially invited to visit the Non-Rails Hospitality Room and enjoy the fun, fellowship, and activities.

All on-site Non-Rail clinics and activities (except for contest entries and judging) will be in the Non-Rails Hospitality Room, located in the Sands' Meeting Room A downstairs, known as the "Coaster Room".

Activities

Non-Rail attendees will have a variety of activities to choose from. The Non-Rails Hospitality Room in the "Coaster Room" will be the place to gather for crafts, games, and general socializing. Self-guided “shop-hops” for local quilting and knitting shops in San Luis Obispo County will be arranged.

There are plenty of local restaurants, shopping, and art galleries within walking distance of the convention hotel or by using the SLO Downtown Trolley.

  7:00 - 9:00 PM Non-Rail Bingo – Non-Rail attendees are invited to come out and have fun. Prizes will be awarded to winners.

Saturday, May 3
  4:00 PM Hospitality Suite closes for banquet setup

Hearst Castle Tour - CANCELLED

The Hearst Castle "Grand Rooms" Tour is ideal for first-time visitors. Gather in the grand social rooms of Casa Grande — W. R. Hearst’s formal name for the largest house at Hearst Castle — to experience what it was like to be a guest at this hilltop retreat. Tour highlights include Assembly Room, Refectory, Billiard Room, Theater, Gardens, Neptune Pool and Roman Pool. Includes ticket to “Building the Dream” at Hearst Castle IMAX Theater.

The Grand Rooms Tour explores the Castle’s opulent social rooms in the main house, and consists of:

  • 45-minute tour
  • Approximately 106 stairs, both up and down
  • 2/3-mile route to walk
  • 15-minute bus ride to and from the Visitor Center
  • Considerable amounts of standing

Bitter Creek Western RR w/Wine Tasting Tour - CANCELLED

The BCW will now be open Sunday, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM for train rides. See the "Layout Tours" page for more information.

Sample some of the finest wines produced in the area at two South County wineries and enjoy a visit to the 7½" gauge Bitter Creek Western Railroad, a privately-owned 7½ inch gauge railroad operated for the benefit of children of all ages who enjoy playing trains. Train rides will be available.

Contest

The Arts and Craft Contest is open to all convention registrants, regardless of NMRA membership or lack thereof. Entries can be turned in during the scheduled contest room hours (see program for exact times). The results will be announced at the Awards Banquet Saturday evening.

Contest entry forms will be available in the Non-Rail Hospitality Room and the Contest Room.
