General Tours

The Siskiyou Summit 2012 Convention Committee is working hard setting up some unusual tours and activities for your enjoyment during the convention. Check the "News" page periodically for updates.

Tours Being Planned – YOUR INPUT NEEDED!

If you would like to take one of these tours, please indicate your preferences for tour(s) and day(s) on the form below. This is just a fact-finding effort, not an actual tour sign-up. We need a count to establish the tours with the companies. Tour sign-ups will follow closer to the start of the Siskiyou Summit 2012 Convention.

All these tours are self-driven with carpooling encouraged. If you can drive others, be sure to indicate that on the form below.

Porters Restaurant and Bar ... Dining at the Depot

A tour of a 1910 brick passenger station originally built for the Central Oregon and Pacific railroad and used until it was closed in 1955. Between 1955 and 1996 it was abandoned or used only as a freight station. Now, after extensive renovation as a restaurant and bar and designated a National Historic Landmark, this true gem of Southern Oregon architecture once again proudly serves the community. The original Passenger Ticket Counter now serves as the curved middle section of the bar. This is a guided tour of the building only. There are no meals during this tour, but they open for "Happy Hour" at 4:00 PM and for dinner at 5:00 PM.

Micro-Trains®

In 1990, after continued growth and expansion, the original Kadee Co. was physically divided into two separate corporations. Micro-Trains® Line Co. Inc., one of the two new companies, retained manufacturing rights to all products in N, Nn3 and Z scale.

In the 90s, interest in N scale model railroading grew dramatically, as more and more people found entertainment and fun in the operation and collecting of this ideal scale. The phenomenal growth in the popularity and quality of N scale can be attributed to a great degree by Micro-Trains® efforts.

Today, Micro-Trains® is the only model train manufacturer of any scale that offers more than 80 different styles of prototypically correct model train freight cars. The company's uncompromising standards of excellence are reflected in the uniquely accurate features, and exacting fidelity in the micro-fine printing and lettering that each freight car offers. The fit, finish, and detail of each item produced is celebrated throughout the railroad modeling community.

Campbell Scale Models

One of the oldest scale model craftsman kit manufacturers in the world, Campbel has been supplying craftsman kits to model railroad enthusiasts and general modelers since 1960. Currently, they produce over 120 kits, modeling parts, and Weston Figures, mostly in HO scale, but they also produce a few kits in other scales as well.

The company was established in 1960 by Leo Campbell of Tustin California. In 1991, Leo moved the company to Durango, Colorado, and a few years ago (2004), due to health reasons, Leo sold the company to Duncan Campbell (no relation to Leo). The company was relocated to Central Point, Oregon, about 30 miles north of California's northern border in Oregon's Rogue Valley area.

If you would like to take one of the preceding tours, please indicate your preference for tour and day on the Tour Preferences form below. We need a count to establish the tours with the companies involved. One business is shifting their work schedule to accommodate our tour of their facility.
