Upcoming Layout Tours in Coast Division geography

The Coast Division will again be sponsoring Layout Tours in 2013. This year, the first round of Coast Tours will be held in conjunction with the Bay Area Layout Design and Operations Meet the weekend of January 25-27, 2013.

One of the many benefits of being a NMRA Pacific Coast Region member, is being able to go on the local Coast Division Layout Tours.

We are fortunate to have many wonderful layouts in our Coast Division area.

Notification of Tours and Locations

We will be notifying Coast Division members of tour information via email and web sites. If you are a Coast Division member, look for announcements in the Coast Dispatcher. We also include announcements in the PCR Branchline. Announcements will also be made on the PCR Yahoo mailing list. If you are not already a member of that mailing list, you're missing out. Join today!

The preferred distribution of tour maps will continue to be on-line and free via links from this web page. Maps will typically be posted by the time of the Coast Division meet. Access to the on-line maps will be limited to registered NMRA members. If you are an NMRA member and are going to be in town on one of the tour weekends, contact Steve Williams by email at spwilliams@gmail.com to get registered.

For those who do not have internet access, hard-copy map sets will be available for sale for $5.00 at the the Coast Division meeting preceding the tour, but only if you have pre-ordered them from one of the Coast Tours committee members by Friday evening preceding the Sunday meeting.

For more information on joining the Coast Division, you may email to me singj@us.ibm.com, or to any of the Coast Division officers on the Callboard.

Including Your Layout on the Tours

There are no minimum standards for opening a layout for tour. There are those who want to visit only completed layouts with full scenery. Others are more interested in carpentry and infrastructure. An open layout could include an empty room with a detailed plan to show visitors. It is important that all layouts be accurately described so that visitors may choose the types of layouts they are interested in. Hopefully, a picture will supplement each layout's description. Layout owners do not have be a member of PCR. Layout descriptions will be online and publicly accessible. However for security reasons, tour and location information will be accessible only by PCR members.

The Coast Tours coordinators are actively soliciting layouts for inclusion in the tour program. If you or someone you know would like to have a layout open for tour, please contact the coordinator who is handling your area or fill out the on-line registration form.
