Greenbridge-on-layout (121K)

Model by George Bush

This is my model of a beautiful old bridge near where I live out on the coast. It is called the North Fork Bridge and crosses the north fork of the Gualala river. I call it Green Bridge and it is an elegant old iron bridge that was built in the 1880's by the Phoenix Bridge Company in a suburb of Philadelphia in 1880. It is a pin-connected, single span, one-lane Pratt Through-Truss bridge. The compressive columns of the bridge were built from four cast-iron segments riveted together. It was originally constructed as a 130'-span railroad bridge over the Smith River until it was moved to Sonoma County in 1909.

I am new to model railroading and new to modelling, but have worked with 12"-to the foot scale railroads up at Roots in Willits and the PLA in Sunol and have restored a Cretors steam popcorn wagon engine. I have built one model kit of a water tank and this is my first attempt to build a model completely from scratch. I have converted my model back to it's original splendor as a logging railroad bridge in Northern California. It is not yet installed in my layout. This is a picture of where it is going to go and is just laying on the tracks.
